The Daily Mining Gazette

The Daily Mining Gazette ran a very nice article today about the Italian Hall and the issues raised by the historical marker at the site (which mistakenly sayd the doors opened the wrong way).

Italian Hall Graves

A lot of people have asked me about the graves at the Lakeview Cemetery and whether they are marked to indicate that they are for victims of the Italian Hall.  Although there are no general markers to indicate the victims, there is at least one grave that bears an inscription ITALIAN HALL.

Victoria's marker is next to some others from the tragedy, and not far from where the trench graves were.

Updates in May/June

I've been running around the UP lately -- I was in the Soo, De Tour and Ironwood in the last few weeks, and will be in the Keweenaw this upcoming weekend (June 9th - ).  Among that somewhere, I found out that the book was named a Gold Medal winner by Foreword Magazine in their Book of the Year competition (in the True Crime category.)

A few days earlier I found out that the book was also a Silver IPPY award winner (that's the nickname for an award from Independent Publisher magazine).  My publisher and I are happy to see the book getting recognition, especially from many people who were unaware of the Italian Hall tragedy previously.
