My book is finally up on Amazon

Speaking and Signing . . .

The publication date is fast approaching, and I have made arrangements to speak and meet with people in the Copper Country as soon as the book is out.  I will be at the following places . . .

Nov 1 -- Finlandia -- at 2:00 and 6:00

Nov 1 -- North Wind Books -- at 4:00

Nov 2 -- Marquette/Northern Michigan University -- at 2:00

Nov 3 -- Einerlei in Chassell -- at 1:00

Nov 4 -- Copper World -- 11:00

Simply put, you have no excuse to not stop by and see me.  I'll bring my blown up photos with me when I'm speaking, and at places like Finlandia and NMU, I hope to have access to equipment that allows me to put a powerpoint presentation up on a big screen.  Wait til you see the 3D modeling that my brother did (of the Hall staircase with the doors etc).

Copper Country Souvenirs

During my various travels and studies in the UP, I've managed to start a nice collection of memorabilia.  Here are some of the items I have in my office:  The block of wood is from the floor of the Italian Hall.  After it was demolished, a local man made these from the boards (although some of his figures are wrong).  The Citizens Alliance pin I bought from the Minnetonka in Copper Harbor this past summer -- it's similar to the one witnesses described on the man who first cried Fire in the Hall.  The ingot is a salesman's sample of copper from the Calumet and Hecla (look closely and you can see the C&H on the top).  It makes the perfect paper weight (more so than the actual ingots that weigh hundreds of pounds!)

Oh, and I almost forgot!  My stag head inkwell that I bought off of Ebay.  It was one of many different items made as souvenirs back in the hey day of the copper country.  It wasn't directly related to any of the mines etc, but I like to think it may have sat upon some important desk back in the day.  (The shield on the front commemorates Red Jacket, Michigan and shows a copper mine shaft as well.)

Pre-Order Death's Door

With the publication date racing toward us, I should point out that you can pre-order the book at a discounted price.  While the cover price will be $19.95, you can order it for $15.00 (with free shipping!) right now.  Visit www.momentumbooks.com.  Click on the cover of the book and then click on the "Order" link.  This is the same deal that we gave to people who stopped by the Copper Country Homecoming.

Pops II

Gary K at Finlandia sent me a note: someone recently donated a 1962 Suomi College yearbook to the school.  It turns out that the Archives didn't have a copy of this one before.  Gary remembered that I had asked him about photos of my grandfather and he found that this issue was even dedicated to Waino "Pops" Lehto.

Here's the dedication page.  Thanks Gary!
