Michigan Public Radio and More!

Tamar Charney of Michigan Public Radio interviewed me last week for MPR.  It ran on several MPR stations yesterday.  You can hear the segment by clicking on the MP3 link here:

I also found out yesterday that the Library of Michigan has named Death's Door a Michigan Notable Book of 2007.  The Press Release is here:

Mary Butina

Ray called me this morning to let me know of the passing of Mary Butina.  Mary was at that Hall in 1913 -- at the age of 8 -- but was not physically harmed in the tragedy.  She turned 100 years old shortly after I visited with her near Painesdale one summer while I was visiting the area doing research on my book.  The Daily Mining Gazette: http://www.mininggazette.com/stories/articles.asp?articleID=4982

Mary's was a remarkable life, notwithstanding that she lived to 101!

Traverse City

I will be in Traverse City on the 22nd, signing books at Horizon Books.  I will also be on the radio that morning in TC, and the Record Eagle wrote a nice review of the book in their Sunday edition.  See:

Updates

There is a nice article about the book in the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal today by Dennis McCann.

And, I feel bad that I haven't posted a pic in a while, so here's a new one: on the fourth page of pics in the book, I have a pic of Sherriff Cruse standing in front of these steps.  They are the front steps of the Houghton County Courthouse in Houghton.  The only difference in the steps since the picture was taken of Cruse is the glass doors and the new handrails.  Gotta love the sandstone.
