Peter Werbe & Signing

I mentioned that I was interviewed by Peter Werbe at WRIF about the book.  WRIF posts podcasts of past shows on their website, which means that anyone with a computer can download and listen to the interview.  Should you be so inclined, go here: http://www.wrif.com/podcast/ and download the most recent Nightcall show (11/26).  You have a choice of either MP3 or iPod, depending on your persuasion.  Although I recommend the entire show (Peter is an icon in Detroit) my interview is at the end.  Look for it around the 2:04:00 mark.

Also, I will be signing books at the Borders in Auburn Hills, next to Great Lakes Crossing.  For info, see:

On The Air With Peter Werbe

This weekend I will be the guest of Peter Werbe, long time host of Nightcall in Detroit, on the three stations he is heard on.  (I know this, because we taped the interview today.)  It will run 6 am on WCSX and WMGC (Sun AM) and around 12:30 AM Sun-Mon overnight on WRIF.  I've bought quite a few books after hearing Peter interview their authors, so it was a thrill to finally be the one being interviewed.  Here's a pic of myself and Peter at the Greater Media facility.

For more info on Peter's show -- and to find out about listening to the podcast or internet cast of the show -- visit www.peterwerbe.com.

Graves

While I was in the Copper Country, I visited the Lakeview cemetery which had recently been covered by a light snow.  When I had showed the photos in my book to Louis and Ken (makers of the movie, 1913 Massacre) they mentioned the Klarich children.  No --  I pointed out, the picture was of the Mihelcich childrens' grave site.  Turns out that there are two sets of graves where there are three, side-by-side.  Here are the Klarichs.

Copper World - Calumet

On my whirlwind tour of the UP, I stopped by Copper World in Calumet to sign books and chat with people who live in the community where the event happened.  Again, I met a lot of people touched by the tragedy and countless others interested in the local history.  If you pass by Calumet, be sure to stop by Copper World and look around.  Not only are the owners nice (the Bausano family) but the store has more copper-related merchandise than anywhere on earth.  Be sure to look under the counters, where they keep the antique stuff from the copper industry heyday.

Here's Tim B and me, the day of the signing.  (With only three books left!)

Ray the Researcher

I just returned from the UP where I spoke and signed books at a bunch of different places.  In many ways, this was the "launch" of the book, and the first place I stopped was at Finlandia where I gave a few talks.  I met up with a lot of people -- some I knew and some I met for the first time.  One person who stopped by was Ray Carlson of Painesdale, who helped me immensely with the research on my book.  Ray knows his way around the archives of the Copper Country better than anyone.

Ray was kind enough to pass along this photo of the two of us from Finlandia, the night of Nov 1.

Book Tour I

I am in the Copper Country now, mid-way through my first "book tour".  I spoke at Finlandia yesterday and at Northern in Marquette today.  So far, I've had a blast.  I love meeting people, signing books, and talking about the Italian Hall.  The DMG wrote a nice article about me (on the Front Page no less!)  For those of you who don't subscribe to the DMG, here's the online version (the paper version has my picture on it as well.)
